K-1 World Grand Prix is a kickboxing organization combining techniques from Muay Thai, karate, taekwondo, san shou, kickboxing, and traditional boxing. Named after racing organization Formula 1, K-1 is owned by the Fighting and Entertainment Group from Japan.
Founded by Kazuyoshi Ishii, a former Kyokushin karate practitioner, the sport began with Seido-kaikan karate in 1980. Ishii organized successful events against other martial arts styles, gradually adopting rules more akin to kickboxing. In 1993, Ishii established K-1 exclusively as a kickboxing organization, working closely but independently from Seido-kaikan.
Every year, several K-1 tournaments are held worldwide, allowing competitors to qualify for the finals in Tokyo. This year, Bosnia and Herzegovina will be one of the hosts.
Remember, "Great things never come from comfort zones."
